HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER.

THAMES VAILET SCHEME. PUSHING ON THE WORK. At a meeting of the Thames Valley Tower Board, held at Te Aroha, it was decided to authorise the engineers to '-igage extra labour to form gangs to proceed with the linking up of the Paeroa-Thames, Te Aroha-Morrinsville, and Horahora - Matamata sections. After these connections have been made further progress in the Hauraki Plains area will be put in hand, during the summer mouths. The board's depot at Morrinsville is to be proceeded with at onne.

The engineer said he could not recommend putting in a low-tension line from Horahora to serve the Maungatautari district beyond Cambridge, but hoped the Public Works Department could be persuaded to allow the main line from Horahora, which serves Cambridge, Hamilton, and Te Awamutu, and which traverses the Maungatautari district, to be tapped to serve that area. It seemed to him that the Department had adopted a ridiculous attitude. Members of the board concurred, and decided to make representations to the Minister, and to the member for the district, Mr F. Hockly.

The terms of the recently-floated loan nf £350.000, which was over-subscribed in London in two days, were considered very satisfactory. The total expenses, which include 1A per cent for underwriting, will be flT.onn. The board will have approximately £223,000 available out of the loan to spend. There will be a further £100.000 out of the original loan of £200,000 not vet lifted, making the total available £323,000.
