WATERFRONT FATALITY.
ACCIDENT AT HOBSON WHARF. MAN KILLED BY FALLING DERRICK. The recent sequence of waterfront fatalities was added to this morning when a waterside worker, James Brady, ■was struck on the head by a falling derrick, and succumbed from the injuries on his way to the hospital. The unfortunate man was one of the gang discharging coal from the Union Com--1 pany's Kawatiri into the hulk Receiver at the Hobson wharf. Each of the vessels had a derrick working, and Brady was on the platform between the two receiving and tipping the baskets. Without any warning one of the supports of the derrick gave way, and the falling spar struck Brady on the head. He was extricated by his fellow workers, and it was immediately seen that his injuries were very grave,'and death intervened while he was being , taken to the hospital. An inquest will be held at the morgue at 7 p.m. by Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., when evidence of identification will be taken.
