Messrs. S. J. Ambury and M. Harding wen; r> turned unopposed directors of the Auckland Farmers' Freezing- Company. Miijor C. R. Spragg is transferred from fho Seventh Wellington-East Coast -Mounted Rifles to the Fourth Waikato Mounted Rifles. Dr. Frank Hay, Inspector-General of Mental Hospitals, arrived yesterday afternoon from Te Awamutu. Mr. D. 11. Wilson, district surveyor, Chrietchureh, has been appointed chief draughtsman in the Lands and Survey Department, New Plymouth. Mr. Julius Jackson, a popular member of the Jewish Club, Wellington, while visiting Christchurch in connection with a Masonic function was taken suddenly ill, and died of pneumonia at Lewisham Hospital. A vote of condolence with the widow ajid relatives of MV. J. P. Buddie, for many years a resident of Dcvonport, and chairman of the local school committee, was passed by the Devonport Borough Council last evening, on the motion of the Mayor (Mr. H. S. W. King), -who said Mr. Buddie was a personal friend, whose death he felt was a distinct loss ito the borough. Mr. F. A. Taylor, of Exeter College, Oxford, has teen elected to a lectureship in modern languages at Christ Church, Oxford. Recently Mr. Taylor was placed in the first class of the honour school of Modern Languages and Literature with distinction in French. He holds the Heath Harrison Scholarship. Mr. ■j Taylor was formerly at Auckland Uni- ! vevsity College. During the war he held the rank of captuin in the 2nd A.I.R. I By the Corintliic, due at Wellington on Thursday, there will arrive the Rev. William Jellie. 8.A., first pastor of the Auckland Unitarian Church, and Mrs. Jc!lie and family. During liis residence in England Mr. Jellie has had charge of the' Southport Unitarian Chinch, which he recentl}' resigned for reasons of health. He is returning to New Zealand to recuperate.
