The weather was glorious but the wicket was a trifle damp when thu match between Australia and the South of England was resumed to-day. The atten.laiKc was small. Curiously the Knglishinen made an exactly similar score in ea.li innings. Armstrong and Mailey divided the bowling honours. Slrudwick and Lee routined to the bowling of Mailey ana McDonald. The batting was lively, and the partnership added 00 in 43 minutes. Strudwick was taken at the wicket at tliroe for (J9. Asliton helped to keop the field busy until just after the century was reached, when he got his leg in front of Armstrong. Lee at 113 was finely caught in front of the screen. Meantime Armstrong made several flhufiics in the bowling, and after lunch Gregory was not available owing to a hurt knee. With Wilson and Tate dismissed the score stood at seven for 13U. The (iilligan-Rolf partnership was sparkling and put on 37 runs, but the last wicket fell at 199, Australia thu<s winning by an innings and 40 runs. Gilligan knocked Mailey for a sixer and a couple of fours in one over. He was caught on the boundary. Mayne asked to be left out of the remaining match', having had too little opportunity to practise. Following are the scores: — AUSTRALIA. First innings 444 SOUTH OV ENGLAND. The Australians begin the last' match of their tour to-morrow, -when they play a team chosen by Mr. C. I. Thornton at Scarborough. The side will be selected from the following players: — J. W. 11. T.
