THE TRAINING CAMP.

OFFICIALS VISIT TRENTHAM. CADETS IN TRAINING. A visit of inspection was paid to Trenthum Camp by a Ministerial party, comprising the Acting-Prime Minister (Sir Francis Bell), Sir William Fraser, M.L.C., the Hon. Dr. Pomare, and the Minister of Defence (Sir Heatonßhodes), and accompanied by Major-General Sir Edward Chaytor and Brigadier-General Richardson. A body of senior cadets is now undergoing a course of training at the carap. The Ministerial party saw the cadets fall in at early morning parade, when the flag was "broken"; and were greatly pleased with the smart appearance of the lads. After the parade one squad of cadets remained on the parade ground for drill, another marched off for musketry training, and a third to the gymnasium for physical exercises. The Ministers visited the Ordnance Stores and the house where the war trophies, -which the Minister of Defence hopes some day to see in the Dominion "War Museum, are temporarily stored; and also inspected the miniature field rifle range, which is being constructed under the instructions of Major Henderson, the musketry expert. NEW FIELD CONDITIONS. A trench is prepared for the defenders and then there is an elaborate scheme of attack by means of which corps of "mcn 1, appear at different distances, representing up to 1000 yds, and the cadets under training will practice musketry upon them. The whole will have a most realistic effect, and the shooting with the miniature rifles will be done as nearly as possible under actual field conditions. The range is now almost completed, and will be available shortly for practice purposes. A GENERAL INSPECTION. The party were shown the process of making plaster casts for -the treatment of orthopaedic cases. They inspected the hospital; the children's ward, where some 70 children, most of them suffering from deformities resulting from infantile paralysis, are under the best expert treatment; and also visited the Red Cross Society's rooms and the Y.M'.C.A. rooms. The party lunched with Colonel Powles (commandant) and officers in the officers' mess, and had tea in the hospital with the nurses and the V.A.D.'s. Great interest was taken in the very excellent gymnasium work done by the cadets under the instruction of Captain Brook. The Ministerial party arrived back i>> Wellington about 5 p.m.
