PRICE OF SUGAR.
NO FALL ANTICIPATED. •By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. ''The price of sugar is not likely to be adjusted before November," said the Minister of Industries and Commerce yesterday. "It seems many people are buying sugar by the pound and halfpound at present., because they anticipate a fall in price. Ido not think they are wise. There is plenty of sugar now, but nobody can say with certainty that there will be plenty later on. We have seen in the past that unexpected difficulties may arise. People who can afford to lay in a stock of sugar now, and who fail to do so will not deserve much sympathy if they are short again when the jam season comes along." The Minister added that the movements of the sugar market had justified those who contended no big fall in local price was probable. The price of Java and Cuban sugar had risen, and, moreover, Cuba and Java were not turning out the quality of sugar that the New Zealand people were accustomed to.
