MELBOURNE, August 23. llousei-hiniters will be surprised to learn that there are 51,320 unoccupied buildings in Australia, or there were at the time the recent census was taken. New Soutih Wales had at tlw* time 15,729 untenanted (houses, Victoria 14.094. South Australia 44.T1, Queensland 0702. West Australia 3270, and Tasmania 2034I 'Die number of houses in course of construction when the was taken was:— New Somth Wales -200.3, Victoria 2005), Queensland 324, South Australia 074, and Tasmania 295. The total number of dwellings in each .State was: Nuw South Wales 450,213. Victoria 347.059, Queensland 163,273, South Australia 113,105, and Tasmania 49.045. j The total number of houses in the Common-.vthalth was 1,208,586. On Uie I average, there were 47 inmates in each occupied building.
