PROTEST FROM CANTERBURY. REQUEST FOR POSTPONEMENT. (By Telesniph.-Lpress Association ) CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. I Canterbury members of Parliament i met to-day to discuss the railway "cut," ; and resolved to request the Government Ito summon Parliament immediately so ; that the question may be discussed from I local and national viewpoints, or alterI natively that- the '"cut" be postponed ; until Parliament meets in the ordinary, i way. I "This seems to be part of the wave of i pessimism that is passing over the pre- ' sent administration," said Mr. E. J. I Howard. "I know I should not speak from a party point of view in a meeting like this, but I feel bound to say the j Government is not showing the confidence in the country that it should." Mr. J. McCombs objected to a differentiation against the South Island in a reduction of services. All the figures had not been disclosed, and it was possible, for example, that too much of the cost of the imported coal had been charged against the South Island lines. BAT OF PLENTT LINE.
