SOCIAL JOTTINGS. Wise Lyndal Booth, wlio lias been in Auckland for several months, has returned to Christehurrh. Miss Phyllis Bloom-field will be the guest of Mrs. VV. H. Nurso Dora Mactier has finished her course of study in London, having successfully passed the tliroe examinations held respectively in December, March, and July. She jjoes this month to lSdinburg'h to take her midwifery course at the Simpson Memorial Hospital. After the performance by the Dramatic Circle of th e Women's Club held at Takapuna, the performers were presented with beautiful bouquets anrt lioxes of chocolate as a mark of appre(iation of their efforts on behalf of the Hospital Fund. The Rainbow Revellers Orchestra contributed an enjoyable programme of music. Home-made sweets were sold by a bevy of maidens in Reil Cross uniforms, and quite a substantial sum thereby added to the fund. A meeting under the auspices of the Takapuna Women's Progressive League was held at the Foresters' Hall on Thursday afternoon, 4th inst., in furtherance of the League's echeme for establishing a memorial cottage hospital in honour of the women who gave their men for the Empire. Following a very earnest addrese by the president ('Mrs. W. ft. Wilson), and a thorough discussion of the' whole matter, it was decided that a canvass of the entire district be undertaken with a view to getting all women interested in a practical way by taking up £1 debentures. A meeting of the Home Economics Association was held at the Women's Olub on Friday evening. The Association was fairly represented. Mrs. Ferner, member of the Board of Education, and other friends interested in the late Thrift Exhibition were also present. ■ Miss Braidwood was voted to the chair. After discussion it was decided to windup the present organisation and reestablish it on a different footing as a social club for the teachers of domestic science. The amount of £40 in hand as proceeds of the Thrift Exhibition it was decided to give ac donations to the following bodies: St. James' Kindergarten, Campbell Free Kindergarten, Haereniai Club, Leslie Orphanage, the Anglican Home, 'Richmond, and to some CatholicOrphanage £5 each, and to the Blind Institute £10. Last Friday a very enjoyable dunce was given in the Foresters' Hall, Takapuna, by Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Rails to celebrate the coming of age of their son, •Mr. Ernest RaJls. During supper the Rev. W. G. Monckton proposed the (health of the guest of the evening, Mr. E. Rails, to which a very warm response iwas given toy all present.
