THE MEAT TRUST.
OPERATIONS IN NEW ZEALAND. SATISFACTORY SO FAR. LONDON. July 20. Mr. Massey. interviewed on behalf of the Australian Press Association regarding the United States' protest to" the British Foreign Oflice against the New Zealand Government's treatment of thAmerican meat companies, said: " I believe some protest has reached the Imperial Government from the United States Government in regard to what has happener between New Zealand and 'the American moat trust. The New Zealand (lovernment is quite able to manage its own affairs without doing injustice to traders of American or any I other nationality. So far our dealin"-< with the American meat trust have been .far from satisfactory. We are quite willing to have the whole question ventilated, either in New Zealand or elsewhere, but we are certainly not goinr- to submit to coercion." Mr. P. D. Armour was also interviewed on behalf of the Australian Press Association. He said: "I wish the truth would dawn on New Zealand that the 'big five' is not a trust. We are anxious jto enlarge our New Zealand markets." [Mr. Armour went on to ask: "Where an-, the headquarters of the British Empire? When we approach the British Foreign Office and Colonial Office we are told that New Zealand is a self-governing Dominion. When we approach New Zealand wo find a complete absence of diplomatic machinery between us." —(A. and N.Z.I
