THE COLOUR QUESTION.

1 PARENTAGE OF PIG?. (Br Telegraph. —Own Correspondent, i HAMILTON, this day. The question of whether white pigs can be bora of black parents was set for Mx. H. A. Youngs S.M., to decide at Hamilton yesterday in a ease in which A. G. settler, of SOverdale, claimed £] ■ 10/ from E. J. Rogers, fanner, or \c •awahia. over a pie deal. "piaintiiT said he laid oat his farm for fodder crops for pig raising, and placed an order with Rogers for sis pedigree Berkshire sows crossed with a pedigree Devon boar. The pigs arrived in a horsebos covered with lice. When the sows save white litters he realised that his plans tor a nxiliry herd were quite upset, as bt L-ould not guarantee the pigs be should breed. He immediately repudiated the deal and asked for the pigs to be removed. Owing to delays and Court adjournments the piss were still on the farm, and he had to take employment elsewhere. Consequently the pkrs had outerown the accommodation and had now complete run of the farm. They had destroyed the fodder and turnip crops, and had ruined the prospects of an entire year. The total result of tue litters from the sows was three litters of whites (including only three blacks). three sows which proved not in young at all. and one litter of blacks born about four months after arrival. Plaintiff gave details of his losses, and said £200 would not make these good. When ie placed his order he thought Rogers was purely a breeder of pedigree stock and not one of the bisgest dealers at ordinary sales in the Dominion, as he proved to be. Evidence was led to show that were the sows purebred Berkshires as stipulated, and crossed with a purebred Devon boar, tht progeny could not possibly Dβ white. For white pigs there was comparatively little •sale, while plaintiff was foiled in "the very object he had in view of breeding pigs of a certain strain and giving with them a guarantee of type. The ease was adjourned.
