AUCKLAND'S SUPERIOR CLAIMS
ACTION BY LOCAL MEMBERS.
A meeting of Auckland members of Parliament, representing both Houses, was held in the Chamber of Commerce this morning, Mr. A. Harris, M.P., occupying the chair. Included in those present were the Hons. G. J. Garland, P. J. Nerheny, and W. Stewart, M_L.C.'s, and the Hon. Arthur Myers, and 'Messrs. H. Poland. M. ?. Savage, W. E. Parry, and F. Mander, JM.P.'s. Mr. A. B. Chappell, registrar of the Auckland University College, was present by invitation. The object of the gathering was to further Auckland's claims in connection with the location of the proposed school of forestry for the Dominion. In the course of the discussion some exceedingly interesting data were submitted to the meeting by Mr. Chappell on behalf of the Auckland University Council, and members generally spoke in emphatic terms upon the advisableneas of establishing a school of forestry as a branch of study connected with the Auckland University. Tlie following resolution was agreed to unanimously: "That, in the opinion of this meeting, consisting of Auckland representatives of both Houses of Parliament, the final decision by Cabinet as to the location of the proposed school of forestry Ehould be deferred until the Auckland Parliamentary representatives have had an opportunity of placing before the Government the overwhelming claims of Auckland in connection therewith." This course was deemed desirable in view of the Press intimation that the Acting-Prime Minister (Sir Francis Bell) was receiving a deputation from Canterbury in respect of the same matter at an early date.
