MEMORIAL UNVEILED.
On Saturday afternoon Bishop Averill unveiled in the Parish Hall, Onehunga a memorial consisting of an, enlarged photograph of the late Rev. J. R. Burgin, chief scoutmaster and founder of the St. Peter's Scouts. Stepping into the hollow square formed by the scouts about the memorial, the Bishop said their late chief was a real scout, always cheerful, always doing something for others, and one who did his duty to God and his country.
The turning" of the first sod for the foundation of a new Anglican Church at Onehunga was performed by Bishop Averill on Saturday afternoon." The new edifice is to be erected on a site with a commandin.ar view, at the corner of Queen and Grey Streets, and it was here that the members of St. Peter's Church assembled to see the Bishop use the spade and barrow. Speaking afterwards Bishop Averill said he hoped to see the laying of the foundation stono and the opening of the finished structure. Short addresses were delivered by Sir F \V Lanjr M.P.. Mr. J. Park, "Mayor," and Mr. W. Iγ. Mdntosh.
The presentation of a silver spade, suitably engraved, to the Bishop closed the proceedings. The scouts formed a guard of honour throughout the ceremony. A short musical programme was rendered by the Town Band prior to the opening of the function.
