A touching incident took place at the meeting of the Ladies' Benevolent Society on Friday, when the president explained that in response to a description of the work done among old folks, which had appeared in the "Star," the society had received the anonymous gift of a Paisley shawl. A letter accompanied the gift, saying that it had belonged to a very dear old lady whom the giver had served for many years. Upon the death of the owner in the Homeland the shawl had been forwarded to the donor, who desired that it might be used for some poor old lady. After considering the matter the society asked that the unknown giver communicate with Miss Wallace, the secretary, as it was considered that the shawl, if raffled, would bring in a large sum, and thus be of more ralue than if used as desired.
