A sum of £478 3/ net was realised by the Rugby football match played at Lancaster Park, Christehureh, as a benefit to the widow and family of the late Mr. Alexander Aitken, -who died after taking part in a game at the Show Grounds on April 23 last. Captain Peterson, who is interesting" himself in the question of the establishment of a lifeboat service at Wellington Heads, is setting the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. W. P. Massey) to go into the matter of the cost of an ug-to-date motor lifeboat for Wellington, and information on the subject is expected to oe forthcoming shortly. Thp annual conference of the Xew Zealand Timber Workers' Federation will Commence in Wellington to-morrow.
