SOCIAL JOTTINGS. Lady Mackenzie will be the guest of Dr. and Mrs. ISruce Mackenzie, Princes Street, Auckland, while her husband is in England. Mrs. 11. O. Young and her daughter, Miss Bertha Young, left Wellington by the Ruapehu on an extended visit to England and thp Continent. Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Bennett (Auckland) and Mr. and Mrs. Natinn (Whakatane) are staying at. the Clarendon Christchurch. The engagement Is .announced between Miss Kathleen Lucas, daughter of Mrs. J. P. Lucas, of Remuera, Auckland, and Dr. Eric L. Marchant, of Wellington, son of Mrs. and the late F. W. Merchant, of Timaru. Mrs. Harold Lanre (nee >Tiss Rri Thompson), who returned to Knjrland last October, by way of America, has again reached New Zealand, in company with her husband, and landed in Auckland last Sunday from the Port Darwin. Mr. and Mrs. Larjre are proceeding to Gisborne by the same steamer. The Haeremai Club for "Women held their monthly meeting in St. James' Hall on the 20th inst., when Mrs. V. K. Jeffreys presided. The Rev. Jasper Ciilder {rave a humorous musical lecture. and a variety of bricrlit musical items was given by '-The Joy Dells."' talented members of the (Auckland Women's Club. Mrs. Williams saner a solo. "The Bells ->f St. Mary's," to a bell accompaniment, played by the Rev. Jasper Calder. There was over three hundred members present at the last meeting. WEDDINGS. The marriage took place at the Roman Catholic Church at Rotorua yesterday of Mrs. F. E. Baume. to Mr. K.'\V. Kane, Clerk of the House of Representatives. The ceremony, which was absolutely private, was performed by the Rev. Dean Lightfoot. Mr. Eric" Baume and Miss Juniper being in attendance. Afterwards a reception was held at the Lake Hotel, to which a few friends were invited. Mr. and Mrs. Kane will leave early next week on a motor tou r of Whakatano and the surroundinc: districts.

The marriage took place on Wednesday evening, at St. Mark's church, Remuera, by the Rev. W. Beatty, of Miss Phyllis Edith Macfarlane, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Miiefarlane, to Mr. Phillip Roderick McKae Hanna, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Hanna, of "Bassenfell," Whakapirau, North Auckland. The bride, who was given away toy her father, wore a handsome frock of warm ivory tinted silk lace over georgette. The frock was made with draped lace panels in front and back, and full pannier effect over the hips. The bodice was ivory satin charmeuse with a fichu effect, and finished with a spray of orange blossom, golden berries, worn with short sleeves, and V neck. With this was worn a. long silk tulle veil with a coronet of gold leaves and orange blossom, which formed the train. The bridesmaids were Misses Marjorie Macfarlane, Thelma Hanna and Marion Macfarlane, who were all dressed similarly in apricot tinted chiffon tareta, with side panels of accordion pleated georgette and short georgette sleeves finished with girdle and bow at the side. The head dress wah a small Breton cap of brown net with tiny blue and pink flowers and streamers of brown and pink. Both the ■bride and bridesmaids carried bouquets to match their dresses. Mr. Easther was best man, and Mr. Blyth Macfarlane and Mr. Athol Hanna acted as groomsmen. The church wis beautifully decorated by the bride's friends. After the ceremany a reception took place at the home of the bride's parents, "Roslyn," Gillies Avenue, which had been beautifully decorated for the occasion. An arch had been erected over the stairs, under which the bridal pair received the congratulations of the guests. It was composed of white and yellow chrysanthemums, and a wedding bell .vas suspended in the middle. The presents were displayed in the billiard room, a splendid room in subdued tints of brown and panelled oak, against which the deep red and autumn tinted dahlias and chrysanthemums were charming. Dancing took place in the diningroom and the drawingroom, which had been thrown into one for the occasion. The drawing room was decorated with deep maple leaves in their beautiful tints of red and gold. Lounges had been arranged on the verandah for sitting out, and a i marquee on the tennis lawn was used for refreshments, in which tables were charmingly decorated with pale pink chrysanthemums for the occasion, and lights were covered with pink shades. Mrs. Macfarlane, wTio received her .guests in the hall, which was decorated "in autumn tinted flowers, wore deep nattier blue georgette with battleship grey satin side panels over an underskirt of silver lace and bodice of satin. The house had been beautifully decorated for the occasion with autumn tinted leaves and flowers, and lemon coloured chrysanthemums, in harmony

with the bride's wedding dress. After- I noon tea was spread in the dining room, and the tables were decorated with pale • blue delphinium and lemon coloured > begonias. Mrs. Studholme wore a hand- j some frock of nigger brown crepe de j chive and satin heavily embroidered with beads, and a hat of brown panne velvet with orange osprey plume, finished with a gold braided ornament. Mrs. John , Deans was in black channeuse, with j sables: Mrs. Alister Deans, black ninon embroidered in white; Mrs. Deans, jun., biscuit coloured charmeuse with overdress of ninon: Mrs. Foster, black silk stockinette: Mrs. Symes. black: Miss McAlister, black and white. Amongst the guests were Mr. and Mrs. Hargreaves, Lady Loekhart, Mrs. E. Russell. Miss Russefl, Mr. and Mrs. Bullock Webster, Mrs. F.
