WAGES OF THE MEN. TTP TO £3 18/ A DAY. SYDNEY, April 2S. Giving evidence before the inquiry into the management of Cockatoo Island Dock, the general manager said that under the four-fifths principle for piecework, which was practised at the island, some employees earned £3 IS/ a day. Giving particulars comparing the prewar and the present costs, the manajrpr said a cruiser that cost £-2.000,000 before the war would now cost £!),000,000. The gift submarines, which cost £150.000 each, would now cost over £1.000.000 each.—(A. and N.Z. Cuble.)
