i WANGANUI RKOATTA. AUCKLAND CREWS COMPETING. (Special to "Star.") WANGANUI. Saturday. The Wanganui Easter regatta was hi-ld in line weather to-day. The course was smooth throughout the day. and the regatta wus very .successful. There were numerous entries from all parts of the North Island, including representatives of several clubs from Auckland and Wellington. rhe first race was the Maiden Fours. Wellington, from an even start, led to the railway bridge where Clifton, with a long swinging stroke' overhauled them. Union came into second place. when Wellington stopped through au accident. Clifton won by eight lengths. The Maiden Single Sculls was won h; Barnes, of the Union, who got a good start. and was never troubled, winning from Aramoho by three lengths. In the Senior Champion lours X mon made the only entry, and had to row over The Youths' Fours war. a magnificent race, the six crews being level most of the way. Although West End had a slight lead. Aramoho and Union kept in close attend, auce and uear the finish the three crew* were dead level. Aramoho quickened and won a great race by a re-u- canvas from Union, with West End third. The Junior Fours, in best-anil-best boats, saw West End show np Immediately, with Aramoho and Union close. The crews were well strung out at the finish, and West Enn won by two lengths from l'etone, with Aramoho a close third. The Maiden Double Sculls went to Tlmaru who were never seriously troubled. Wellington and Slar filling second uud third places, respectively. Hadtield, of Waltemata. and St. Clair, of Hamilton, were competing against Sharpo (Union I in the Senior Single Sculls. Sharpe was well away at the start, and maintained a three lengths lead for over a mile. St. Clair being two lengths behind Hndfield. The last named drew gradually closer In for the last half-mile, and won a flue race-hy a length. He rowed with rare judgment. The Lightweight Maiden Fours went to Wellington after a great struggle with St George's, who were beaten by a bare halflength, l'etone were third. Aramoho took the Junior Sculls by n lenirt.li from Manawatu. with l nlon well j back. last. | The Senior Pairs resulted in a magnificent I struggle between Aramoho and Union, the latter" winning by half a canvas. Timaru lifted the Junior Pairs, with SI I George's a length back, second, and Wel llngton third. In the Novice Fours West End nnd Ara molio took the lead until Wanganui overhauled West F.nd. but the latter came again, and were second from Aramoho by a length.
