CLAIM FOR COMPENSATION.
WAITJKTJ RAILWAY CASE. OOCRT AWARDS £202. Judgment was delivered to-day by the Compensation Court consisting of his Honor, Sir Theo. Cooper (president) and Messrs. E. C. Blomfield and C. Motion (assessors) in a claim by H. T. Oorrie and M Buckland as trustees of the estate of the late William Finlay against the Minister of Public Works. "Mr. A. H. Johnstone appeared for the claimants, and Mr. R. V Hunt for tne respondent The claim was in respect of land taken and land alleged to have been injuriously attected by the Waiuku railway line. which passes through part of the clai mants' property. The original amount of the claim was _I-0.) 13/, but at the hearing which liegan on January 21 and occupied the court for five days, the claimants amended their claim to £715 lo'. His Honor announced that the court was unanimously of opinion that the amount to which the claimants were entitled was £202 l."> . Xo order was made as to costs. His Honor added that the case was a difficult one. and he and the assessors had been engaged for quite three days in discussing and considering the evidence and in arriving at the award. lie acknowledged the as'stance counsel had been to the court in presenting the evidence and in arguing the various questions involved. Mr. Hunt. on. behalf of the Public Works' Department, gave an undertaking that a water pipe would be laid across the railway at a certain point, so that the claimants would have a water supply.
