STATEMENTS IN COCKT. Evidence of alleged "palm-greasing 7 ' in certain timber yards in order to obtain wood for building purposes "was given before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court to-day during the hearing of a claim by George F. Pirreii i Mr. Goulding) builder, Auckland, against W. Calder i.Mr. R. A_ Singer) farmer. Manurewa. Plaintiff claimed £19 15, . which he said was due to him in connection with a building contract which he alleged he had made with the defendant on a 10 per cent basis- There was also a claim for £4 2/2 for material supplied. Plaintiff repudiated the alleged contrary, and said the material claimed for had not been delivered on the job =o far as he knew.
