Canon Williams went south by last night's express. Commander H. C. Hodder, of the Salvation Army, is visiting Auckland. Mr. T. Shaw, of Westport, has been appointed to a position in the electrical department of Canterbury College. Mr. W. B. Leyand has reached Wellington by the Tahiti from San Francisco. The Very Rev. C. W. Carrington, Dean of Christchurch, has left for England, accompanied by his wife. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Napier and their son Eldon, were passengers by the Tofua last night for Sydney, en route to Auckland. Mr. W. E. Habbs, 0.8. E., late Controller of Supplies of the Ministry of National Service, Britain, leaves Auckland for Rotorua on Tuesday morning. Mr. J. H. T. Mackenzie has resigned the position of caretaker of the Quarantine Station at Quail Island, Christchurch. Mr. P. E. Cheal was re-elected chairman by the Auckland Railway League yesterday afternoon and accorded a vote of thanks for his energy and valuable services during the past year. Mr. John H. Parr, who is engaged in the business of Messrs. Parr, Blomfield, and Alexander, solicitors, has received intimation from the University authorities that he has passed in the final subjects for the solicitors' law examination. Mr. Parr is the son of the Hon. C. J. Parr, Minister of Education.
