The Australian Ro:rrd ot Control, however, could not accept that amount and the sura hail been increased to 10' a day. The council had done its best to make the tour a success and to secure the cream of Australian cricket. It was hoped the result would be to improve the game throughout New Zealaud. Mt. Peake. secretary to. the council, said £2000 was the estimated cost of the tour. £2300 being guaranteed and the council having to find the balance. The council would be responsible for the two test matches and for the match against the minor associations. Mr. Raphael said it had been found impossible to arrange a test match in the South Island.
