Robertson, a station holder at Happy Valley, near Wellington. w-_= walking along the road to the ; city when he came acro-s a dead body ! lying beside a wrecked motor car. The 1 face was almost unrecognisable, tiie head I being i>_dly mutilated. From the po-ition of the body and the appearance of the car. it is surcni-ed that the dead man was examining the tank to see how much petrol was in it K-hen it exploded and almost blew ins head off. The police conveyed the body Ito WcUfntrton. Some burnt matches were found under the motor car. and it is supposed the i explosion was due to thr lighting oi a mate- to see whether aDV petrol was left in the tank. It has 1-een ascertained that the deceased was Mr. Frederick Hulse,, who ■resided at 131. Konini Road. Hataitai. Wellington. Mr. Hulse. who was 4S years old. was a building contractor.
