BIG SHIP STATUS.
BATTLE-CRUISERS FAVOURED BY MR. DANIELS.
WASHINGTON. January 27. The Secretary of the Navy (Mr. iJosepnus Daniels), discussing Mr. W. E. Borah's suggestion to suspend naval construction for six months, declared that ' it would be a fatal mistake to stop work for six months upon the six great battlecruisers under construction for the United States navy. Mr. Daniels also deprecated any .suggestion that capital ships should be abandoned in favour of submarines, aircraft, or other types of fighting craft. He added that the United States should continue building battlecruisers, since she had none of this type in commission.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
