A UNIQUE EVENT. **«5"3"5"' Mr. and Mrs. William Porteous, re-ri-dents of Grey Lynn, hav<e just celebrated the Diamond Jubilee of their wedding, which took place in the Manchester Cathedral sixty years ago. Mr. Porteous was in Victoria in the early days of this Dominion, and whilo there in 1864 he volunteered for active service in the Maori War. He served through the Waikato campaign. After the war Mr. and Mrs. Porteous settled *£ Hamilton, and from there they moved to Thames, when the lirst gidd discoveries were reported. After two years on the goldrields there they removed to Auckland, and they have been residents ever since, bringing up a family of twelve, including eight sons and four daughters, who in turn have given to them forty-nine grand-children and 23 great grand-children, all of whom are alive and in good health. The Porteous families contributed no Less than twenty soldiers to the Xew Zealand forces in the Great War.
