JAP. CAMP IN FORMOSA.
CLOSE TO THE PHILIPPINES. ANXIETY IN AMERICA. NEW YORK., December 5. The "'Chicago Tribune" has received from a correspondent aboard a ship on" Formosa a wireless message stating that Japan is maintaining a large military camp on the lower end of Formosa., within a few days' sail of San Fernando, in the Philippines. The dispatch states that the Japanese Government is reinforcing the camp unobtrusively by means of a fleet of transports carrying men and supplies.
The correspondent, while unable to verify reports that the troops number 30,000. states that his personal observations show that the camp rovers several hundred acres. He adds that disquieting reports are circulating through American colonies in the Far East regarding Japanese activity. The Japanese explain that the troops have heen mobilised for the control of the natives of Formosa.
The United States Department of State and Navy Department announce that they have no information regarding the reported concentration of Japanese troops in Formosa.— (A. imd S.Z.)
