AUSTRALIA AND AMERICA. NEW YORK, December '>■ Mr. Mark Sheldon, Australian Trade ConTmissioner in the Inited .States, in a Bpeech to the Harvard Union, commenting upon the observation made by .Mr. H. C. Lodge recently that he would like to see an arrangement w itli the British Dominions bordering on the I'acine regarding Asiatic immigration, remarked that Mr. W. M. Hughes repeatedly in the past and more recently had held out similar invitations to the United states. -Mr. Sheldon added: "Our views and interests are identical with those of the I'nited States on this question. We, like the United States, desire to avoid any conflict, but on the other hand we are determined to maintain our policy. 1 am cure tlmb any approaches for a general understanding on this question consistent with the views of Australia would *be gladly welcomed not only by Australia, but by the other members of the 'British Empire."—(A. and N.Z.
