FOUNDER OF THE' BRITISH EMPIRE.
There were odd ideas in France at the beginning of the war about Great Britain's intervention. Foch asked Colonel Repington solemnly how much European territory we should expect. The General was surprised and incredulous at the reply "not an inch of Continental territory at a gift."
Thereupon Colonel Repingtqn. as he records in his book, asked him if he knew who founded the British Empire. Foeh made several guesses, and at last was told:
"Joan of Arc, br-cause the moment we were driven out of France and visions of Continental domination were wipe! out we turned to the sea and gradually created the oceanic Empire. 1 ' A true it" not a new, deduction.
