HOUSEHOLD HINTS.
A pad of newspaper sprinkled with bath'br-ick will clean the knives as well as a knife'—ard. A little methylated spirits rubbed over candles, will harden them, and prevent them melting if kept in a warm place. To cool ..eU'es or blancmange quickly take a 'handful of salt and the same amount of soda, put in a bowl of water, and stand the jelly-mould in it. A good waterproofing for boots can be made by melting together equal parts of beeswax and mutton suet. Rub this lii—tiy on the soles and edges of the b6ot«s. When a broom begins to show &igns of wear, do not throw it away; soak it in hot suds, put it out in the sun to dry. and then cut the bristles so that they are all even lengths, and it will give the broom a renewed lease of life.
