VILLAGE POISON MYSTERY.

I Breaking into a cottage at Little Harlow, | Bucks, tbe police found, under one of the beds, the body of a woman in her night attire. They believe that she has been poisoned. ! The cottage had been occupied by a man named George Arthur Bailey and a woman. : As the man had lieen missing for some time, ; the police broke into the cottage and dis- ; covered the dead woman. A medical 'investigation showed that the woman had been dead several days. Her age was about 30. I Later In the clay Bailey was detained nt Reading, and tbe police say that poison was . found in his possession. I Bailey was well known in the district. A ! series of advertisements were inserted by him in the local newspapers announcing that exceptional wages could be earned by j girls to whom he promised to teach a new I system of music notation. After a heartnjg lasting only a few I minutes George Arthur Bailey (55), clalryj man. was remanded nt Marlow on a charge of murdering his wife. j Deceased was a woman of prepossessing appearance. I The inquest was adjourned until Noveni- • ber 2 to await the report of the analyst, j James Wm. Jennlng, of tSwindon, said his I sister had been married to Bailey four years. They had one child, and had lived lon affectlonnte terms. He had never heard of any threats, and knew of no reason why Bailey should have killed her. I Inspector West said he found the back door bolted and the front door locked. He entered by a window, and found the I woman's body lying under a camp bed in a . bar-k room, she was in her nightdress, and ; was covered with a sheet. A large counterpane effectively hid the body from view. The bedroom, he .itlcled, was in perfect order.
