9000 ACRES THROWN OPEN. The Land and Survey Department lias issued a schedule of lands thrown open for selection in September totalling i>oo4 acres. This includes 098 acres ill Hawkc'a Bay (in email lots? for mixed farming), 450 acres in Marlboroujjli, 1363 acres in Otago, and 837 acres in Southland (all dairying), for discharged soldiers. Grazing sections for soldiers in Wellington, Nelson, Otago, and Southland districts are also thrown open. The land in Auckland district m:idn available for settlement totals 113.) acres. This includes a block of 4IH acres at Orongo Settlement, in sections of 32 acres to 50 acres, and two section i of 179 acres and 127 acres at Selwyn Settlement, while a block of 300 acres, in small holdings, at Matamata, will Ix 3 thrown open on October 11. AH those are dairying sections reserved for application by discharged soldiers, and the half-yearly rentals run from £21 12/ at Matamata (North) to £05 0/ at Orongo. Two education reserve lots in the township of Hamilton West are also madu available for lease for residential purposes. During this month a further 2500 acres are to be made available for 1 settlement.
