MAINTENANCE CASES.

Mr. A. M. Mowlom, S.M., presided at the. Court to-day for the ordinary maintenance cases. In ttvo instances his Worship objected to hear cases on the ground that they had come under his knowledge when in private practice. Patrick J. McGrath appeared to show cause why he had allowed £4-1 arrears to accifmulate undeT an order to contribute towards the support of three children in a receiving home. Defendant stated that his wages were ,€4 6/2 per week, -out of which he pa : d 30/ to his wife. Defendant was ordered to keep up his payment of 20/ per week, and to pay one shilling per week off the arrears. Elizabeth M. Kennie (Mr. J. J. Sullivan) appeared to oppose a demand for maintenance of five children in an industrial school. Mrs. Rennie sadd she was separated from her husband seven years ago. Mc was then ordered to pay 20/ per week maintenance. Her husband did not contribute anything. She was 'at present earning 30/ per we?k. Mr Sullivan as-ked that no order be made. His Worship asked why steps were not taken to ma.ke the husband contribute. Senior-Sergeant Eales said alreidy an order had been made, against fthi. husband for 5/ per week in the case of each child. Mr. Mowlem remarked he could not make an order against the woman under such eirenmstances. Alfred Richard D'cVman appevred to oppose an application made by Mr. R. A. Singer, on behalf of Mrs. Dickru.in, that an order for 257 pei week maintenance for herself and two children he inctaased to 30/. His Worship grantel tho request.
