I* The full Court is hearing an appeal by s tho secretary of tho Prices Investigation Board at Christchurch against several firms from the judgment of Mr. McCarthy, S.M., dismissing information laid against defendants for selling certain goods at a prico that was alleged to be unreasonably high- information concerned tho sale of "Big Ben" clocks at a price of 26/ each. The defendant firms were bound to sell these iclocks at tho rates fixed from time to itime by the manufacturers. It was ' proved that some of the firms bought as j wholesalers and resold as retailers at the respective retail prices fixed Also, the practice held of selling at replacement values. The magistrate found that both those practices were reasonable, and tha,t the profits made were based on a fair and reasonable rate of commercial profit. Argument is proceeding.
