PERSONAL NOTES FROM LONDON.

• (By Our Special Correspondent.) . LONDON, July 15. ' ■Mr. C. Mills Palmer, of 'Messrs. Pal mer, Collins and Whitaker, Auckland, . left New Zealand per Moana on April ' 30th, and stayed for a few days in New York on business. .He is visiting manufacturers in London, Birmingha3n, and Manchester in the interests of his firm, and will leave again for Xew York by ' the Caronia on August 7th. Ho has about ten days' business to transact in New York and neighbourhood, and will return to New Zealand by the Marama from San Francisco on September 4th. Mr. L. C. L. Averill and Miss W. M. Averill, of Auckland, are in London, and. staying at 8, r?outh Place, l>a_-k Lane, | with their parents, the Bishop of Auckland and Mrs. Averill. Capt. M. Mackie, R.A.V.C., of Mt.|' Eden, Auckland, is in London. Mr. F. Prior, of Auckland, is in London, and staying at 4S, Fulham Road. New Zealanders will hear with interest of the coming of age of Lord Plunket. who succeeded his father so lately and in such melancholy circumstances, for the late Lord Plunket was not an old man. The present Lord Plunket is grandson of tlie Lord Plunket who was Primate ot j! Ireland, and of the celebrated Lord-; DurTerin and Ava. This agreeable young | Irishman succeeded his father last January. He is one of a family of three sons and four daughters, all well known and liked, as they were in New Zealand, in the neighbourhood of their Co. Wicklow home—Old Connaught House, Tlray. A fifth sister, Ethne. died last year at the age of 12. Lady Plunket, the young peer's mother, ran the day nursery in i Cornwall Gardens which during the; war was so gratefully appreciated by many war widows, who were able to leave their children there safe and happy while they went out to business. The children used to call Lady Plunket their "granny."' Capt. the Hon. R. and Mrs. Vane. OS Rotorua, are in London from Devon, where they are staying at Wolleigh House. Bovey Traeey. .Jr. and "Mrs. L. A. Low, of Auckland,: are in London, and staying at the Wttldorf Hotel, Aldwych. They are return-, ing to New Zealand in October. ',
