SOCIAL JOTTINGS. Professor and Mrs. Kirk, of Wellington, are visiting Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. Garrett, of Auckland, are in Christcliurch at present. Mr. and Mrs. J. Bullock, of Putaruru, are visiting Auckland, and staying at the Grand. The Misses M. and A. Sutherland, of Auckland (reports the Christchurch "Sun"), are staying at the Clarendon. Mr. and Mrs. Gerard, of Canterbury, and family arrived from the South yesterday, and are staying at the Grand. Miss Maggie Dalton, of Pah Road, Epsom, has returned home after an extended visit of seven months to Australia. Cable advice has been received that Mies Daisy J. Fowlds, youngest; daughter of the Hon. Geo. Fowlds, was married on Tuesday la3t to Mr. J. Hoppes, at Salem, Oregon, U.SA. Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Wyatt, of Christ church, intend settling in Auckland. They are at present staying with -Mr. H. J. Wyatt at {?catoun, Wellington. Mr. Wyatt recently retired on superannuation from the position of Superintendent of Telegraphs, Christchurch. The engagement is announced of Miss Koa Matthews, eldest daughter of iMrs. J. M. Matthews and of the late Mr. R. G. Matthews, of "(lien Lee," Otorohanga, to Mr. Burton Mossman, second son of Mr. and Mr 3. Edward Mossman, of "Tiritea," Arney Road, Remuera. A small tea was given on Friday afternoon by Mrs. Sharman to enable the representatives of the local papers to meet Miss Irma Caron, who possesses a charming and intellectual personality, and is the daughter of the late M. Leon Caron, who will be remembered by many theatregoers witli warm regard. The wedding of Miss Moyra K. Dee, fourth and onlv surviving daughter of Mrs. D. Dee, Island Bay, and Mr. D. Dee, of Auckland, to Mr. James Cooper, of Elaine. Victoria, took place on August IS at St. Francis's Church, Island Bay. The bride wore a light mole costume, a leghorn hat. wreather with rose silk poppies, lined with georgette ana velvet streamers, and carried a beautiful shower bouquet- Miss Rente Rces, of Thorndon, was bridesmaid. Mr. J. P. O'Xeill was the best man. The Daffodil Day instituted by the Victoria League, was pursued by bad weather on Friday, when stalls were erected in the streets, for the sale of blooms, but in spite of this the funds will benefit. The rooms of the League were filled with flowers, where a large band of busy workers were tying the (lowers into bunches all day for sale on the stalls. Airs. Rickerby and Mrs. Abbott bad the stall at the corner of Customs Street; Miss Snell at Smeeton's; Mrs. Cheeseman, Mrs. Ware and Mrs. R. Fenton at Remuera: Miss Peacock, Mrs. Edgar and Mrs. Hodgson at llilne and Choyce's; and Mrs. Finn and Mrs. iShand at Court's, The Plunket Society had a stand opposite the Strand Arcade under the charge of Mrs. Lucas Bloomfield'j'and the St; > John Ambulance under Mrs. C. Smith was at Wellesley Street corner. The ladies of the Xorthcote Progressive League had a stall near Phillips' and Impey. Flowers were received from the school at Edendale, Mount Eden. Maungawhau. The cookocl food company formed in Duncdin for the purpose of overcoming housekeeping difficulties by women who must have some help, is working successfully. Mrs. Leech, the chairwoman, interviewed recently, said the demand for dinners was increasing daily, that customers came back and ordered regularly, that dinners for as many as 12 were supplied to one order, and that the record output for a day to date was 69 dinners. Some would-be customers have had to be refused, because their residences are too far away. .Mrs. Leech adds that it is as yet too early to say definitely how the enterprise will turn 'out financially, but that in all matters upon which a pronouncement can be made the company's operations are all right. The annual ball given In* the Auckland Grammar School Old Boys and Old Girls' Association took place in the school assembly room. Mountain Road, on Friday evening. There was a very large attendance. About 400 couple's were present, and the dancing took place chiefly in the hall, but the folding doors on each side were thrown open, and dancers were io be seeu gliding around in all the passages. The splendid assembly hall, of its kind without peer in all Xew Zealand, beautiful in its massive simplicity, was a fine setting for the hundreds of gay frocks which crowded the floors, while the long galleries provided a good promenade during the intervals. Unfortunately the gas was so very low that the room was in a twilight shadow, and the dancers just a gay mass moving in a grey world. The stage had been arranged as a. drawingroom, and it was occupied by chaperones and guests and decorated with some very fine daffodils and pot plants lent by Professor Thomas. The supper was spread in rooms downstairs, and the tables made a pretty picture, with decoration in old gold, daffodils and purple violet 3, the school colours. The host was Mr. J. W. Tibbs and hostess Miss B. Butler, who wore a handsome frock of black ninon over silk, with corsage and deep sasli of blue and gold Oriental brocade. Miss Tibbs wore pale blue charmeuse; Miss Edgerley. president of the Old Girls' Association, was in lemon georgette, with a royal blue floral wrap. Amongst the guests present were: Mrs. Beattie, black with blue embroidery and musquash coat; Mr*. ! Angus Gordon, black net, with ostrich feather cape; Mrs. Hay. black over white, blue cloth wrap; Mrs. W. if. Morpeth, saxe blue and Oriental trimmings, with black furs: Mis.? Kissling, black silk, pale blue wrap; Mrs. Macgill, black lace and royal blue wrap; Mrs. Andrews, black net over white silk, mauve wrap; Miss Fletcher, pale ping net over silk; Miss Gouk, scarlet net and gold embroidery; Miss Warren, black velvet: Miss Dui'aur, white silk, , with satin bands eckred with black; Miss ! Wilson, shell pink silk net; Miss K. Hall. white net; Miss R. Gray, gold tissue; Mrs. A. S. Gray, cream crepe de chine; Miss Dickenson, pale peach taffeta; Miss Culpan. black net; Miss B.
