RACING NEWS.
ADELAIDE GRAND NATIONAL. ADELAIDE, August 28. At the Adelaide Racing Club's meeting to-day. the following was the result of the leading event:— GRAND NATIONAL STEEPLECHASE, of •JOOSOVS. About three miles. J. Burgess' b g Destructible, by AryanCrash. 9.G } Soofa, !>.4 - - Sir Pistol, 10.7 <» Destructible led all the way and won easily bv~slx lengths. Time, 6.S.—(A. aud N.Z. Cable.) TE AROHA CLUB. There was a large attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Te Aroh:L Jockey Club, and Mr. It. L. Somers. president, presided. Sir William Merries was re-elected patron, and the list of officials remains the same as last year. The secretary read the report and balance-sheet. Members referred to certain items in the latter more particularly to outstanding nominations and acceptance, riding fees and stallion services account. The secretary stated the amount for nominations and acceptances covered a period of aibout five years; that the riding fees were recoverable, and that a considerable portion of the stallion fees amount had neen paid in since the annual balance date. In reply to a reference to the large number of complimentary tickets issued by the club the president said the wisdom of such procedure was proved by the great popularity of the institution. A recommendation to the committee that Sir William Herrles and Mr. Jcbn Lennard be made life members of the club was carried. The following were appointed to revise the rules of the club:—'Messrs. It. L. Somers, J. R. Nicol. W. R. Johnson. R. Burke, F. Rowe, and G. McOlashan. Votes of thanks were unanimously passed to the president, committee and secretary for their efforts in the direction of the elob's' nrogress.
