BOLSHEVIKS IN PERSIA
HEAVILY REINFORCED. COUNTER-REVOLT IN THE CAUCASUS. (Uy Cable—Press Association—Copyrtffht.) (Received 5.30 a.m.) LONDON, August 29. Persian advices state that the Bolsheviks landed heavy reinforcements at Enzeli. The Cossacks evacuated Reßht, and are retreating along the Resht-Menjil Road. A later message state that British aeroplanes co-operating with the Cossack forces against the Bolsheviks successfully bombed ships in Enzeli Harbour. Advices from Northern Caucasus showthat the revolt against the Bolsheviks is spreading. Cossacks and tribesmen are fraternising, and are jubilant over General Wrangel'B successes. Cholera is rife in Baku, where there are no medical supplies. The number of executions there is increasing, the local Soviet shooting 50 persons daily. A foreign consul reports that Baku has become an "absolute hell." Many people are fleeing to Persia, The Bolsheviks are disarming Tartars and Armenians, the penalty for being found in possession of arms being death without trial.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
