PERHAPS A MILLION.
WAS EXPENDITURE DISPUTE. "WHO IS CAPTAIN WHITFORD." (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Friday. "Is it a fact that there is a huge sum of money arising out of war expenditure in dispute between the treasury and the Admiralty," asked Mr. T. M. Wilford during discussion of tlie fence estimates in the House to-day. Mr. Masaey: It is not a huge sum. Mr. Wilford: Is it not half a million? Mr. Massey: I would not like to say it is not. Mr. Wilford: Is it below a million. Mr. Massey: Yes, for, as far aa I rcmem'ber, it is between half a million and a millon. Mr. Wilford: Now, I have got the information I wanted. The member for Hutt proceeded to fitate that he had reason to believe that a Captain Wihitford had been sent Home to settle a claim in dispute. He wanted to know who Captain Whitford was, and what were his qualifications in a battle with the brains that outwitted ever Germany. As far as he knew this Captain had not been to the front. Sir R. H. Rhodes raised a point of order that the question sjiould be dealt with under the War Expenditure Estimate, and the matter dropped.
