ENGLISH CRICKETERS.
POSSIBLE NEW ZEALAND VISIT TEAM OF AMATEURS. (Received 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, August 27. Nothing is settled as regards the amateur cricket team for New Zealand, but efforts are being made to send a team. There is n strong desire to do so if possible, as the team for Australia is unable to visit New Zealand. The i M.C.C. is quite in favour of the scheme. 1 The weather was fine and the wickets good to-day, nnd there was heavy scoring. Surrey against North Hants made 019 for five wickets, and then declared. Peach made 200 not out, and Ducat 149. Hampshire against Warwick made Old for seven wickets and then declared. Mor.d made 102 not out, Brown 151, Barrett 14S. Against Middlesex Woollcy made 9G. Fender (Sussex) mnde 113 not out in 40 minutes. He scored the century in 35 minutes to-day, beating Cilbert „. Jcssop's record of 40 minutes, made in 1K97. Fender hit five sixes and sixteen fours, and gave two chances. His driving was wonderful. Acninst Kent in the second innings, E. Hendren made 84 in 43 minutes, including one sixer nnd thirteen fours. Hia hitting was terrific.— (A. and N.Z.)
