Xote 5. A most precarious tenure. At the time that Perehiko's eon died in New South Wales there were two or three Kuki boys, or inferior New Zealanders, at Mr. Marsden's establishment, and it required the interposition of bis authority, distant as the parties were from their own country, to prevent their being sacrificed by the friends of the deceased young chief, to appease his departed spirit.
