WAR REGULATIONS.
(To the Editor.) f,j r .—it is about time that the public put a stop to Government humbug ovev war restrictions. After nearly two years (if peace we are constantly reminded that the greedy capitalist must not have more than 8 per cent gross on house investments, which means not more than 41 per cent net. . Considering that (H per cent net is offered on debentures, ii man would be a maniac to build houses to let. The issue of building permits—like kissing—goes by favour, and in other respects the Board of Trade is n farce. The extension of the moratorium for another six months marks at least the fourth occasion upon which the Government —who should lx> exponents of business morality—have distinctly broken faith with the public. If the pretence is that mortgagors cannot borrow the money to redeem their obligations, it only proves how hopelessly out of touch the politicians are with business matters. Matters will never resume their normal state while tin* silly interference continues. At present war regulations are of no possible benclit to the community or to anyone else except the army of political appointees who arc fattening on them.—l am, etc., SANITY.
