RACING WORLD.

(By WHALKBONEJ.

R. Hall has a trio in Apology, Mcsteennd Gucrrc-aMort working under his charae at Ellcrslic.

The new trnek for the Auckland Trotthip: dull at Alexandra Park was expected to be completed to-day.

C. Cnlemun is expected Tiack from 'Rlcearton with Oalcl.-ijrh, Deviation, and General Advance to-morrow.

When Golden Prince fell in the Beaufort Stet'plcfhnsr at Kiccanoii on Tlinreday he made the nrsi mistake of bis career

Dwrinp the past four years the financial position of the Wuodvillc Jockey Cltvb has been improved to the extent ~f i!(5000.

General Stephen was schooled over sis Ih-nrdles at Ellerslle yesterday mornine giving a iuucli better display than usual

Mr s " y Ck %: returned to the Dominion after a holiday spent in Queensland.

Southern exchanges t'iTe the indication that there will be a larse linnilicr of horses from those parts nominated for the Avondale Jockey Club's Serine .Meeting.

The C..1.C. National Hurdle and Steeplechase -were -worth £l,ono to Mr. p. Delareey and the Messrs. Kiddiford Bros., the owners of the respective winners.

A dlKpute between two local trainers Is to the attention of the Auckland District Committee at the monthly meeting of that DOdy to-morrow.

Oak Abbey and Kerehone were schooled in company over hurdles at Ellerslle on Monday, the former giving a real good display for a novice.

Although the Aucklnnd-owned Lovelicht still remains in the "Wanganui Guineas there is very little likelihood of his being sent south to contest that event.

Hyians, the winner of the C.J.C. National Hurdles, was purchased by his present owner for SO guineas, since when he has won over £2000 in stake money.

According to "Templar," Merry Lad has finished his racing career, his owner having presented him to Mr. A. Henderson, who will In future use him as a hack.

• The withdrawal of General Advance from his engagements on the concluding day of the C.J.C. National meeting was due to the state of the going, which was very heavy.

One regrettable feature of the Auckland IRadne Club's programme is the number of fiTe-furlOTg races to be ran at Ellerslle, no less than five of this distance being proTided for the older horses.

Gladwtn was schooled over the big fences at Ellorslle yesterday morning, iv company with Tenacious. Both fenced' well, the display of 'Gladwln being distinctly promising for a novice.

W. Rennle had the mount on Waimai in his engagement at the C.J.C. National meeting. The veteran son of Spalpeen does not appear to be getting any tetter with age.

With a strong field engaged in the Sydenham Hurdles at Riccarton on Saturday, a fair price was expected by the supporters of Kauri King w-hlch won, and the dividend lie returned was somewhat disappointing.

Mt. "R. H. Mackenzie did not wait for the last day of the C.J.C. National Meeting, It toeing understood that Mentinore "was not to run. However, the son of Elyslan was •tairted In the Styx Hurdle .Race, hut made a very poor showing.

■Provid<»d the weights are suitable, Some Fashion" will be sent south to fulfil his engagements at the Marton meeting. The son of Fashionable was to have raced at the North Taranaki Hunt Club's meeting, t>ut tlie little prominence given to the date of closing: of nominations caused his owner to overtoot them.

Octoplete was sent over, four hurdles at Tlllerslle yesterday morning, but his display was anything but a satisfactory one. At the second obstacle he lost his rider, R. Conway, who had the wind knocked out of hhn, but was soon able to get in the saddle again, while at the last he stopped, getting over at the second attempt. It was the worst display the son of All Red has elven since he wan put to the jumping game.

A statement in the "Manawatu Times," ■which has gone the round of the Southern papers, was to the effect that the Manawatu and Auckland Racing Clubs had already paid income tax on a four years' assessment. This may be correct as far as the Mannwntu Club Is concerned, but up to the present the Auckland Club has not done so. Mr. Spence ls busy preparing the returns for tbe period for which the tax is demanded, and naturally, when these are complete, the matter will be adjusted.

It was thought that the Marton Jockey Club's Spring Meeting would have attracted more Ellerslie-trained horses than has been the case, but whereas one or two owners ■missed the nomination date, several others considered that a one day meeting was not sufficiently attractive to induce them to send their horses south. Included in the lists are:—Forward Lady, Hypothesis, Jaffna, Miss Elva, Some Fashion, Totara Jack, Jacaranda. Te Oro. Bitholia, Golden Bubble, and Sanacre, all of which are Auckland owned.

Qluetaiius is to l>e given a chance to earn distinction ne a steeplechaser, and. after jumping a couple of hurdles at Bllerslie yesterday morning, joined in with Jacaranda and Irishlaml lor a turn over the sod wall, double, and stone wall. Jacaranda showed the way. but got into the first fence of the double and came down, the other pair feucing well. Jacaranda was afterwards remounted Tjy his trainer B. AVarner, who rode him when he fell, getting a t)lt Of a shaking, and jumped the fences named a couple of times without mistake, while Irlshland also cleared them the second time, giving a good display.

The N.Z. Metropolitan Trotting Cliiu liave had the idea for some time that their " meetings would eventually overshadow' Kiccarton, tout n-Lile they are certainly pretty high up in the racing -world they have still a lot of leeway to make tip before they the C..1.C. mark. The laet uamed club seemed at a standstill for a few years, but recently they appear to hare taken a forward move, and 'their receipts at the 'National Meeting just concluded reached the large sum of f213,475, which is easily a record. The Metropolitan Trotting Club was decidedly unlucky in having to postpone twice, their totallsator turnover, £159,305, which was also a record, is £54,050 below the amount 'handled at Biccnrton.

?, 5 ™ nsc °f his remarks at the recent social of the Ohristchureh Trotting Owuers' Association, the chairman said that since the inception of the competitions some flve years ago J. Bryte had been the leading trainer on each occasion, and in all he had provided 1481 winners, and his stable had won approximately £30,000. Harold Billon bee " champion stallion for four years and had provide! ISfJ winners. In regard to the leading reinsmen, the records for the various yoars had l>eou- 1914 i a fringle, 23 winners 1015;-l 6 , j.' BryeV' 31----•LB16-17, A. Pringle, 29; 1017-18 A Prlnele 80; talSjß, J. Bryce, 2(i; while in ioiO-2ofl'. S? e S?i ott , hnd CBta lJ"shcd a new record witn o4 £ wlßners.

In framing their programmes for the coming season the Taknpunu Jot-key Club las given special attention to the two year-olds, and these events have beim IH )P rally endowed. Vhls is .1 step In the ric-ht direction, for, with attractive stakes owners will be Induced to purchase ami so encourage breeders, and it is to he hoped the example of the Takapuna Joekev Club will be followed by other clubs. The Avondale Ktakes is v Rood race, for It Is worth OOOsovs., and the Tnkapuna Club should institute n similar classic event, Tv&lch Tvould do much to further popularise their meetings. The ■breeding question Is one that clubs sfhould give more consideration to, and it ds a great pity that Auckland, once sucTi a famous blood stock centre, 19 now only represented by one Stud, although there are a ferv sires standIng In the district. In the Walkato more encotarasement Is given the 'breeder, and the et/Untry clubs gave the metropolitan bodlee a lead wlioO they lfflported a couple of stallions in mi effort to Improve the breed <?f out bloodstock. Racing has now become a very 'big national pastime, and it ts to lie hoped that rar leading clubs will consider the advisability of the importation of one nr tnvo hljrh-class 'horses, and so helD to keep ud the high standard of thorotufttbred necessary to tie country.

SIRES OF THE SEA.SON. The highly-bred General Latour (2), by Soult from Merry -Sif, is advertised to stand the season at the farm of his owner, Mr. V. McDuff, Takanini. Further particulars can be had on application to his owner. AUCKLAND RACING CLUB. LARGE INCKIEAISE IN .STAKES. The committee of the Auckland Racing Club held a special meeting yesterday afternoon, when t>he programme for the ensuing season was finally agreed on. The stake money allotted runs to £61,050, as against i49 ( oo0 last year, whioh Is an increase of £L 1,500, and which places the Auckland Club a long way ahead of any racing club in the 'Dominion. The proposal to make the Auckland Cup 3500sovh was lost, and the big event remains at 3000sovs. The A.B.C. Handicap, however, has been raised to aoOOsovs, other important Increases being:— Great Northern Hurdle Race, 2000sovs; 'Ureat Northern Steeplechase, 2000sovs; 'Mitehelson Ctrp, 1400sovs; -Railway 'Handicap, 1400sovs; Easter Handicap, HOOsovs; Autumn Handicap, 1400sovs; Islington Plate, lOOOsovs; Newmarket Handicap, lOOOsovs; Auckland Plate, lOOOsovs; King George Handicap, lOOOsovs; and York Welter, lOOOsovs. In the classic events the stake for the Great Northern Guineas of M2U was raised to ISOOsovs, the 2Sth Royal Stake to ICJOOsovs, and the Great Northern Derby, 1922-23, to 2300sovs. The conditions of the classic events were altered to read that the breeder's allowance be paid to the breeder, provided he- is the nominator, and the horse is bred in New Zealand The conditions of the hack races now reads at the time of starting instead of time of nomination, and the minimum weight for these races is fixed at 7.0 -with the proviso that when there are two such races on the same day the minimum shall be i.i.
