<n.v Telegraph.—Press 'Association.) "WELLINGTON, Tuesday. LAW AMENDMENT BILL. In the Legislative Council this afternoon, the Hon. J. McGregor introduced the Law Amendment Bill, explaining that it provided for a bank not being liable for paying an altered cheque in good faith whan the cheque -was made out in such a way as to facilitate alteration. It ill.-,) provided that in cases of shipwreck, etc., whore, two people lost their lives that, for purposes of succession to property, the older of tho two shall be considered the survivor. The bill was read a first time. COUNCIL AMENDMENT BILL.
Sir Francis Bell moved the second reading of the Legislative Council Amendment Bill, explaining that one of the reasons for the bill was to give effect to the Prime Minister's promise that Parliament wculd have an opportunity of considering details before the original Act was brought into force. The debate was adjourned until Tuesday next.
