BOND ISSUE FAILURE.
APPEAL BY THE CHANCELLOR. LONDON, August 17. Asked what was the cause of the failure of the issue of new Treasury 5 to 15-year 5 per cent bonds issued in May last, Mx. Austen Chamberlain (Chancellor of the Exchequer) said that only £10,000,000 had been received in three months. He admitted that the result was disappointing compared with even his modest expectations. He again appealed for public, support, as the floating debt continues, to cause anxiety.— (A. and X.Z.) PRINCE AND INDIA. (Received 10 .i.iv.) NEW YORK, August 17. The "Xew York Times" prints an article stating that according to advices received by the Xew York branch of a well-known London bank having important financial interests in India, and Britain, the <jovernment has decided that it would not-be advisable for the Prince of Wales to visit India until conditions become settled.— (A. and N.Z.
