WELLINGTON, Monday. The High Commissioner cable*, under date London, August 14. as follows:— 'Meat.—Market is quiet and trade very slow. English prices are lower. Beef, 1/4mutton, 1/8! lamb, I/0.. Imported is selling below the maximum fixed prices except New Zealand lamb, for which the demand is good. Batter.—Supplies are very short and prices -firmer. Average English. £19 2/; Irish, £20 5/. '
■ Cheese.—A slow demand for English, and, ; prices have a tendency downward. Canadian prices are Irregular. Spot. £7 10/ to £7 13/; white. £7 14/ to £7 16/; coloured, quotations c.i.f., now about £7 9/. i Hemp.—Manila is easier, but moderate , business has been done. Present quotations for "J" grade are: April-June, July-Septem-'(her shipments, £03; August-October ship:'ment, £03 _/. The market closed steaQj.. ■ The Xew Zealand market is dull and irregu--1 lar. Sellers' present quotations are: High points, spot, £_4; fair, £53; .May-July ship- ' j ment, £33 and £31 respectively. . | Honey.—The Xew Zealand market ls qnlet and steady. There is a small demand for lower grade. LONDON" TALLOW MARKET. ~' Dalgety and Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their ■j London house, under date August 11:— I Tallow.—Market very Arm. 2000 casks offered, and , practically all sold. Prices ; have advanced from od to lod since July 21. Closing price for prime mutton and beef, c 80/ per cwt. Good colour mutton and good , colour mixed, 7S/. Mixed, no colour, 73/. Gut, 6S/.
