BUSY MONTH IN PORT.
SHHPPDNIG RETURNS FOR JULY. At the Auckland Harbour Board meeting this afternoon, the Harbourmaster, Captain (H. V Sergeant, reporting on shipping arrivals, departures, * towages, dockirigK, etc., for the month of July, i : 1920, said the arrivals consisted of nine large cargo steamers, one' trawler, 17 intercolonial steamers. 18 coastal steamers, 3 intercolonial sailing vessels, together with 444 local coastal vessels, making a grand total of 49t_ vessel of __!3.560 gross tons, as follows: —Oversea,. 7'I,KUO; intercolonial, 55,566; coastal 106,385. | Ajs compared with the corresponding period of last year the large shipping showed an increase of 14 vessels of _4,150 gross tons. The local coastal vessels' returns showed an increase of 27 vessels of 0136 gross tons. Ttje departures consisted of 16 oversea 6tcamers, 17 intercolonial steamers, 17 coastal steamers, 4 intercolonial sailing vessels, together with 4*3 local coastal vessls, making a grand total of 497 vessels of 293,36- gross tons. j The services of the Board's pilots had been engaged by 13 vessels of 48,857 net tons inwards, and by 21 vessels of 88,798 net tons outwards. There werej also 7 removals of 18,54- net tons. ' Calliope dock had been engaged for 26 days by S vetisels _i 5365_ grors tons, and the COO-ton slipway had been engaged for 25 days by 7 vessels of 1016 gross. tons. j Captain R. H. Gib-bow*, Harbour-' master at Onehunga, reported that at the Port of Manukau for the month ending July 31, IH2O, the arrivals consisted of 23 • vessels, with an aggregate of 111,071 gross tons. Compared with July last year, this showed a decrease of 8 vessels, 12,785 gross tons. The depar-| tures consisted of 28 vessels, with an! aggregate of 12,9-_7 gross tons, a de-. crease of 9 vessels of 11,378 gross tons when compared with the figures for July, 1019.
