NORTH SHORE WATER BOARD
AMENDED CONSTITUTION LIKELY
A meeting of the Lake Takapuna Board of Control was held yesterday afternoon. The Commissioner of Crown Lands, Mr. H. M. Sheet (chairman of the Board) presided, and Messrs. J. H. Wooda.ll (Devonport), \\'m. Blomfield (Takapuna), Jas. P. McPhail (Birkenhead), and A. IJ. Grcenslade (Northcote), were also present. A letter from the Marine Boroughs' Association asked the views of the Bourd concerning tin; formation of a water bourd for the combined boroughs in order to deal with the augmentation of the water supply, should such be considered necessary. The chairman said rating powers would be essential for the proposed new board, which should have representatives from each of the four boroughs (elected probably upon a population basis), with an independent chairman. .The present Board possessed all the data as to the possible sources of augmentation of the Lake supply. Two sources wero avnilable. That meant the expenditure of £200,000. The proposed board, with enlarged powers, could deal with the question of a future supply for the marine districts, after using the Lake Takapuna supply to its fullest capacity. Thus th« board could provide the water necessary for all ordinary sanitary requirements, and one pumping station only would be needed. Mr. Blomfield intimated that the Takapuna borough was contemplating the installation of drainage, an extra supply of water for which would be required. It was decided to convey the chairman's- opinions to the Marine Borough, Association. A report upon tho drainage in the vicinity of Lake Takapuna was received, and the Board commented with satirfaction regarding the steps taken by the Takapuna Borough Council to prevent drainage into the Lake, and the prohibition of septic tanks in the vicinity.
It was resolved to have the weeds clearpd from the various pumping station intakes.
