AUSTRALIA'S RAILWAYS.
A ONE-GAUGE LINE.
MELBOURNE, May 24. Details of the proposals submitted by Mr. W. M. Hyghea to the Premiers' Conference for fi uniform railway gauge show that it is intended to connect the State capitals, from Brisbane to Perth, with a 4ft Biin gauge, the States to contribute to the cost on a per capita basis, and the 'Commonwealth also contributing a. quota. It is proposed that the Commonwealth shall make arrangements for raising the money by issuing non-nego-tiable bonds for a fixed period. A motion was carried recommending each State to legislate,for the control of air navigation, pending the passage of Commonwealth legislation—(A. and \StJZ. Cable.) •»
