GRADE COMPETITIONS. WINS FOR MOUNT EDEN AND UNIVERSITY. ST LUKE'S AND SOME'ItVILLE A DRAW. The grade hockey competitions under the auspices of the Auckland Hockey Assoclntlon were continued at Remuera on Saturday afternoon. In the senior matches University beat Areta by 3 goals to 1. Mount Eden beat Edendale Old Boys by 3 to 1, while the game between St. Lukes and Somervllle resulted in a draw, each team scoring 2 goals. The position of the teams now Is that University and Mount Eden head the list with 3 wins and a drawn game each, St. Luke's follow with 1 win 1 loss nnd _ drawn games. Somervllle Have had 1 win, 2 losses, and a drawn game, Edendale 1 win. - losses and a drawn game, and Areta 4 losses.

EDENDALE V. MOUNT EDEN.

(Edendale were first away, and Fnice just missed the goal. Mt. Eden Immediately retaliated, and after a whole series of attacks and counter-attacks a cross-hit went to M. Alexander, who found the Edendnle net with a good shot. Edendale maintained n persistent onslaught on tho Mt. Eden citadel, 'but play drifted Into Edendale territory. Johns turning thejball in -the air it tiounced at the goalie s feet, and Macken kicked the hall into the net. A brilliant run iby Spnrkcs took the ball to Mt EtlPn's twenty-five, where MoLeodstopped The Mt. Eden forwards came through' in a bunch and a goal seemed Imminent, but Ulckctts and Llneen cleared. •Edendnle set up a prolonged attack, and Mt Eden were twice forced and then cornered, but the scores were unchanged at hnlf-time. On resuming Mt. Eden were first away, Edendale soon changed the scene of 'action, nnd Mt. Eden suffered a corner, and from the following play a scrimmage ensued in the circle, from which Davl9 scored. Give nnd take play followed. V Mt. Eden onslaught was well stopped by I'reston, who hit out at the twenty-five flag. Then a smart dash by Alexander bent the Edendale hacks, and Fellows stopped a hot shot, but M. Alexander following up hit the ball ibrtwecn the goalie's pads, and notched again for Mt. Eden.. Mt. Eden were now having all the -best of the argument, nnd Edendale were penned down. A free bit eased the pressure, but the i|»rowns were soon back' again. A brief Invasion by Edendale was terminated iby Johns, nnd the Edendale goal was in danger, and suffered several bombarCmeats. Claps-haw set his forwards moving, and University were on the defensive for a minute or two, but a long hit along the right line put Areta on the defence again, play reaching the goajle. who kicked clear. St. Luke's won the bully, und quickly rushed play down-Held. The ball was halted in the circle, and Williams got a surprise goal at very short range. Somerville got the advantage at half-way. and after a brief bout of hitting 11. Watts ran through. He beat the full-backs, and with a quick hit snapped the ball in, mak■iii" tho scores even. St Luke's came gamely up to the attack again, but the Somerville forwards took charge, and, the ball coming in from tbe wing, H. Watts added a second point. The red ic-scys pressed from the bully, and for the rest of the spell did more than their share of attacking. However, hasty shooting and some lack of combination -spoiled their efforts, and half-time arriVed with the scores unchanged. I When the second spell started, St. Luke s •i"a!n attacked willingly, and their offensive was well maintained. There was some hard work in the circle, but Somerville kept their goal intact. At length E. Watts got away down field, but he was unsupported, and could only get the ball over the back line. There It was quickly hack to tbe Somerville circle, where no less than four shots missed their mark by inches only. Somerville broke away. and a shot by Hamlet was disallowed for off-side St. Luke's took up their offensive a"aln. but found the opposition a little more effective, and it was some time 'before Duncan taking n long shot from the back of the Pack, found the net.
