LABOUR RESOLUTIONS.

A further step in the attitude of the Labour party in the jockeys' dispute was taken in a 'public meeting held at the Opera House yesterday afternoon, the secretary of the United Federation of Labour (Mr. B. Martin) presiding. The principal speakers were Messrs. Parry and Bartram, M.P.'s. The former dealt with the statement of the president of the Auckland Racing Club (the Hon. E. Mitchclson), and took exception to the contention that the suspension of the three jockeys was not influenced by their action on the first day of the Avondale meeting. He stated that Hewitt's solicitor had. advised him against appearing before the stewards before he had the specific charges placed before him. The only tribunal to which the jockeys could appeal had had the position unfairly represented to thc.nl, so that the lads had no redress. Mr. Bartram then moved n resolution: "That the refusal of the Racing Conference to recognise the Jockeys' Association, and the victimisation of tlie three jockeys for voicing the wrongs of their fellows, was an attack upon the rights of any body of workers to organise for common betterment: also, that the Hon. 15. Mitchelson's denial of the contention that the jockeys were disqualified for their actions on April 7 was contrary to fact, and the district committee be called upon by the meeting to review their decision, and lastly, that all present refrain from attending race meetings Until the three jockeys are reinstated."
